Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement bringing together engineers, designers, developers, marketers, product managers and basically anyone interested in entrepreneurship to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1,000 past events in 478 countries, creating over 100,000 entrepreneurs and almost 10,000 startups around the world.
All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: the event begins with a keynote speakers, following which anyone is welcome to present their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) followed by a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing and market validation resulting in a minimum viable product (MVP).
The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders where the top three teams are awarded prizes in addition to bragging rights and media coverage.
